Founding
Tau Sigma was founded in 1999 at Auburn University in Alabama. Our guiding principle is to promote the excellence of students transferring to four year schools.
Since our founding, we have inducted over 100,000 members, given away over $500,000 in scholarships, and volunteered countless hours to help our communites.
Our Chapter
Our chapter was founded in 2015 by Terry Hill, and we've been growing steadily ever since!
With this year being all virtual, we're having our first ever virtual induction, and working on ways to connect transfer students in these unprecedented times.
From an interview with Terry Hill, our founder
"Before I arrived at UW Bothell in 2008, I worked at UW Seattle the Assistant Director of First Year Programs where I started a chapter of Tau Sigma. As a former transfer student myself, I felt it was important that there was a student organization that could advocate for future transfer students and also serve as ambassadors for UW with local community college that member transferred in from. I can’t recall the year of the charter, but I believe it was 2002. Around 2004, I expanded membership to include members at UW Bothell and UW Tacoma. When I arrived at UW Bothell to take the Director of Orientation & Transition Programs position, I worked with my Assistant Director, Dan Scheuler, to officially make UW Bothell its own chapter. Tau Sigma rapidly became the largest student organization at UW Bothell at the time."
